In support of the people of Balanbale, providing lifesaving services for Balanbale district
Using a participatory community consultation process, the Balanbale community prioritized the purchase of an ambulance for the district hospital and a firefighting vehicle. The ambulance and the firefighting vehicle both address urgent needs of the community.
Critical medical cases in Balanbale must be transferred to larger hospitals with better medical infrastructure and an ambulance will allow this to happen in a safe, systematic way. Wildfires and structure fires in the district also represent serious threats, especially as climate change exacerbates drought and increases the risk of homes, businesses, and pastureland being burned. A dedicated firefighting vehicle will help the Balanbale community manage the risks in a sustainable and systematic way.
This is a grant matching project that supplements the funds raised by the community at a set ratio. As the ambulance and the firefighting vehicle will benefit all those residing in the district, requiring collaboration across diverse clans and villages and towns, the matching ratio will be 4 to 1 and thus, the community contribution expected is $20,000 with the project matching $80,000.
The emergency services were identified as a priority project by the community through an inclusive consultation process in Balanbale in April 2021. The consultations were government-led, participatory and brought representatives from different socioeconomic groups in the community together to consult with one another on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, as well as needs.
Thank you for contributing towards these worthy causes that will benefit all the people and communities in Balanbale district!
