The remote village of Caracase, 12kms south of Luuq town in Gedo region has neither electricity nor paved roads. They have a small borehole which was built long time ago but was never maintained. A small pipe carries water from the borehole and brings to a small reservoir or “Berked” where more than 400 households collect water in a long queue. The community members collect water once in a day as there is a long queue caused by the only reservoir. On top of this, it was recently reported that the old boreholes was dismantled by the heavy floods in the area and severely damaged the borehole facilities including the tank, pipes and the like. Today the community is facing a severe water scarcity resulting in the migration of hundreds of people to find drinkable water as some go back to collect unclean river water. After learning the DRC’s DIALOGUE project, the community organized various committees to do something about the water issues and set it as a first priority. In this journey of getting rehabilitating and extending the water storage facility for Caracase village and its surrounding, these communities appeal you to support them to do the following • Rehabilitee the boreholes by replacing the old facility • Addition of one water reservoir or “Berked” to reduce the community queue in collecting water and make easy for them to collect water more than once a day. • Addition of several solar panels to the boreholes solar system. • Replace the borehole tank with a new one. The DIALOGUE project is a resource mobilization initiative by DRC that contributes 50% of the total cost of community and public project to create trust between Somali people and their government in the management of their own development
