Tittle: Easy access to clean water though community-led drilling of a borehole.

Through a participatory community consultation process, the Jiracle community in Mataban District, Hirshabelle State of Somalia prioritized the drilling of a borehole to get access to clean water as the community is a pastoral community that drastically hit by the drought due to the failed seasons and they depend currently on water tracking from Qabno town around twenty (25) kilometers away from the village.

Jiracle village falls under Mataban district in Hiraan region of Hirshabelle state of Somalia with an estimated population of 320 households additionally, there are several other permanent and semi-permanent settlements that depend Jiracle village on public services including water, education, health etc. The communities residing in Jiracle are pastoral communities, and it is located along the tarmac road connecting Beledeyne to Mataban town and it is approximately 45km to Beledweyne.

The Jiracle Community has shown great interest in participating in the matching grant Initiative, where the community will co-fund their prioritized/identified activity during the inclusive community consultation process with an agreed ration of (1:4). The community in this village has no previous experience in matching grant mechanism and it is their first time to experience this opportunity. Thus far, communities have established a Community Project Implementation Unit (CPIU) representing different sectors in the community, and they will lead the implementation of the selected priorities from fundraising to completion of the drilling of the borehole. For the matching grant, Jiracle community will raise $20,000, and the project will match it with $80,000 in the ratio of 1 to 4. The total project cost estimated is $100,000.

The Activity identification is a decision the community has unanimously reached together with the local and regional Administrations, as this contributes to both social cohesions, and improves access to clean water. The community committees attended the participatory planning process and local fundraising training to empower and transfer skills to the selected community project implementation unit.

Thank you for contributing towards improving access to clean water through joint fundraising that will promote the social cohesion among the citizens residing in Jiracle and the neighboring villages in Mataban district through the drilling of the borehole.
