Title: Enhancing health facility by constructing a community-led health post in Omad village.

During a participatory community consultation process, the Omad community in Mataban District, Hirshabelle State of Somalia prioritized the construction of a health post in order Mothers, children, elderly people and every member in the community get access to primary healthcare services as the nearest village with health facility is Beergadid located around forty-five (45) kilometers away from the village.

Omad is a small village that falls under Mataban district is Hiraan region of Hirshabelle state of Somalia with an estimated population of 450 households plus additional surrounding smaller villages that depend on Omad for public service delivery has no access to health care services. It is located on the Northen side of Qabno village and the Southern side of Mataban town, off a main road that connects Hirshabelle and Galmudug State. Omad is about 20 kilometers from Qabno. The community infrastructure in the villages currently are one Primary school and a borehole.

Omad community has shown great interest in participating in the matching grant Initiative, where the community will co-fund the activity, they prioritized during the inclusive community consultation process with an agreed ration (1:4). The community in this village has no previous experience in matching grant mechanism and it is their first time to experience this opportunity. Thus far, communities have established a Community Project Implementation Unit (CPIU) representing different sectors in the community, and they will lead the implementation of the selected priorities from fundraising to completion of the construction of the health post. For the matching grant, Omad community will raise $10,000, and the project will match it with $40,000 in the ratio of 1 to 4. The total project cost estimated for the construction of the health post is $50,000.

The project identification is a decision the community has unanimously reached together with the local Administration, as this contributes to both social cohesions, and improves access to primary healthcare service. The community committees attended the participatory planning process and local fundraising training to empower and transfer skills to the selected community project implementation unit.

Thank you for contributing towards improving access to primary healthcare through joint fundraising that will promote social cohesion of the district through the construction of the health post.
