Using a participatory community consultation process, the Balanbale community prioritized and raised funds locally and from the diaspora for the purchase of a firefighting truck and ambulance. However, upon further discussion between community members, the Balanbale community decided a district airstrip is a more pressing priority that would better serve the wider community. A district airstrip would facilitate travel and create economic opportunities for the district and its residents.
The community have already completed all major construction works, but the remaining finishes will be co-funded by the Daryeel project through a matching grant. The final phase of this project consists of building a community waiting hall (Terminal Hall Toilets, 2 male and 2 female), as well as apron earthworks and compaction for the Balanbale airstrip. The matching grant ratio is one to four. The Daryeel project will match $80,000 of the community contribution. The total project cost (including community contributions and project matching) is $100,000.
This project aims to facilitate movement and travel thereby creating economic opportunities and growth for the Balanbale community and local government. Community contributions and committees from various social sects for project implementation will allow communities to focus their attention on collaborating on this project, enhancing social cohesion and trust. Adequate services also reduce potential tensions between community groups.
Thank you for contributing towards a worthy cause that will benefit all the people and communities in Balanbale district!
