In support of the people of Tuulo Barwaqo, providing access to water to the community
Using a participatory community consultation process, the Tuulo Barwaqo community prioritized the construction of the primary components of a borehole. This will address the critical water needs of the whole community.
Tuulo Barwaaqo is a cluster of approximately 12 villages and is located 16 kilometers north of Balanbale town in Galguduud Region of Galmudug State. It is situated 2 kilometers to the boarder of Ethiopia.
The major challenge the community is currently facing is access to water. There is no borehole in the area. Not only is water a lifesaving and life sustaining need, but it is also a key factor that can contribute to the mitigation of resource-based conflict in Galguduud region and more specifically within Balanbale district.
Construction of the basic components of a functional borehole can be done through the matching grant activity under Daryeel project, which supplement the funds raised by the community at a set ratio. As the borehole will benefit all those residing in Tuulo Barwaaqo, which requires collaboration across different groups and clans, the matching grant ratio will be 1 to 3. The Community contribution expected is $20,000 with the project matching $60,000. The total amount is $80,000.
The primary school was identified as a priority project through inclusive Community Based Planning (CBP) conducted in Tuulo Barwaqo in April 2021. This process was government-led, and community-owned bringing together representatives from different socioeconomic groups in the community to jointly assess their location including mapping resources, understanding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to the community, and to identify the priorities of the community.
Thank you for contributing towards providing access to water for Tuulo Barwaqo communities through construction of the primary components of a functional borehole. This will benefit the whole Tuulo Barwaqo community!
