Luuq is one of the oldest agricultural settlements in Gedo region of Somalia yet has the poorest infrastructure. The town is located in a bend of the Juba River, where the watercourse flows down from north to south in a horseshoe shape. Luuq is also known as Luuq Ganaane. The area has experience insecurities which hindered community development initiatives. Luuq town has one long derelict main road that goes through the CBD and connects to the suburbs. It is this road in its poorest condition that everyone and vehicle is using. It is contributing a lot to the local economy far less than it was supposed to contribute if rehabilitated. When you are driving on this road, you will observe the dust and large cracks on the sides of the road making it more compacted hence creating congestion which most of the time causes accident and takes the lives of influential residents. The worst comes during the rain and water covers the whole road as there is no drainage and completely stops the mobility within and outside town. Moreover, the reckless movement of vehicles in rainy seasons may cause spillage of unclean water on passed by individuals resulting violence among residents. The road also serves the surrounding farming community where many tones of food stuff always get rotten and makes difficult for farmers to bring their produce to the marketing centers of Luuq districts and beyond. The Luuq development committee and local authority passionately appeal you to support us to rehabilitate and backfill the Luuq main road with proper drainage and make it accessible for the farming community who bring the produce to the town. Maintenances of the road will increase the mobility within the town and will reduce the dust and traffic during and after the raining seasons.
