A SCHOOL FOR OUR KIDS! – SUPPORT THE FIRST PRIMARY SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION IN FARJANO, ABUDWAQ DISTRICT
In support of the people of Farjano communities, providing access to primary education.
Farjano village in Abudwaq district, Galmudug State is an integrated settlement of approximately 500 households that accommodates both Internally Displaced People (IDPs), returnees, and host community residents. Due to lack of education facilities nearby this Displacement Affected Community, most of the children either have no means to access basic education, or eventually drop out of school due to long distance. To address this high priority issue through longer term local solution, the Farjano communities have come together and with the support of Somali diaspora, raised $15,000 towards constructing the first primary school in the area.
As a community-driven public infrastructure project, the school is also endorsed by the District Authority who has pledged government land for the school site. However, more funds are required to build the school, and at the request of the local authorities and Farjano Development Committees, Daryeel project team has agreed to support the school through a matching grant mechanism.
As a matching grant project, it supplements the funds raised by the community at a set ratio. Since the school will benefit all those residing in Farjano, requiring collaboration across diverse clans and displacement affected groups in the community, the matching ratio will be 1 to 2 and thus, the community contribution expected is $15,000 with the project matching $30,000, and therefore, the project cost (community contribution and project matching) will be $45,000 in total.
With collective efforts and coordination between the government and the community, the community contribution (matching grant) is carried out through an inclusive and participatory process which brings all the stakeholders actively together, promoting togetherness and trust between the stakeholders.
This will be the first school in Farjano village, located ca. 4km north of Abudwaq town, towards the Ethiopian border, and is part of the areas targeted by Daryeel project.
