Every Somali must have heard Beledhawo town literary “The city of Hawo” through the classic and great songs of 70s and 80s.This business city bordering with Kenya and Ethiopia and the home of many Somalis and distinct groups with varieties of accents is battling with poor infrastructure which is a great obstacle to trade and mobility within the town during raining seasons and the other times.
As the town is experiencing a relative urbanization in post civil war period, one district elder argues that the infrastructure particularly the main road is becoming poorer with a lot of damages witnessed everyday but neglected. During the rainy seasons, the main road turns to be a water catchment preventing the mobility within town during the day and a complete closure of many businesses in the evening. Moreover, as the main road turns to be muddy with swamps, the down- town becomes difficult to be accessed and logistics become complicated as many food trucks couldn’t access and often stay outside the town for months which leads a greater loss to the local traders. In addition to this, the cramped road is hygienically challenging the resident and is a great damage to vicinity and scenery of the town.
The local business associations, community leaders, district officially and other community groups tried to do something about it many times, however, their efforts couldn’t go far but the need was igniting every resident’s mind day in day out until they have heard about the DIALOGUE project. The DIALOGUE Project Is a resource mobilization initiative by DRC that contributes 50 percent of the total cost of any community and public projects to create trust between Somali people and their government in the management of their own development
This is a typical community led project where they have their own committees promoting accountability of this project. The fund raised through this platform will directly go to their account and will be managed by them as we provide a regular updates. In this, the community would like to appeal you to support us to help them to realize their vision of building Beledhawo’s main road which will contribute to a greater mobility in the city, hassle-free for the logistic companies and a local economic development.
