CONSTRUCTING AN ADMINISTRATIVE CENTRE: LET’S HELP LAJIDE ADMINISTRATION IMPROVE SERVICES TO THEIR COMMUNITY

By Daryeel Project with Lajide Community

Using a participatory community consultation process, the Lajide community prioritized the construction of an administration building. This will address the critical needs of the Lajide administration, which will enable them to improve the services offered to communities.

Lajiide village of Xerale District, is located 15 kilometers southeast of Xerale town. It has an estimated population of 800 households permanently living in the village and approximately 2,400 households living in smaller villages and rural areas in the outskirts of Lajide.

Both the Lajide local administration and the inhabitants are active in their community, and together, through collective contribution, they managed to build a primary school, health post and a borehole. Although the Lajide administration is engaged, they have no physical office from where they can properly operate. They tried to construct an administrative centre with their own local funds and managed to build a perimeter wall. However, further support is still required. The community and their local administration agreed and endorsed the construction of the village administration block through Daryeel matching grant project. Lajide will have their first village administrative centre, which will enable the village administration to address community issues and improve services to community members.

Construction of the Lajide administrative centre can be done through the matching grant activity under Daryeel project, which supplements the funds raised by the community at a set ratio. As the administrative centre will benefit all those residing in Lajide and communities in the outskirts, which requires collaboration across different groups within the village and surrounding rural area, the matching grant ratio will be 1 to 2. The community contribution expected is $10,000 with the project matching $20,000.

The Lajide administration building was identified as a priority project through inclusive Community Based Planning (CBP) conducted in Lajide, Xerale District in November 2021. This process was government-led, and community-owned bringing together representatives from different socioeconomic groups in the community to jointly assess their location including mapping resources, understanding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to the community, and to identify the priorities of the community.

Thank you for contributing towards improving services of Lajide administration through construction of the administrative centre. This will benefit the whole Lajide community!
