FIRST HEALTH POST IN DIRI HASSAN: HELP SAVE AND SUSTAIN LIVES

Using a participatory community consultation process, Diri Hassan community prioritized the construction of a health post. This will address the critical healthcare needs of the the Diri Hassan community and immediate surrounding locations .
Diri Hassan is siutated halfway between Guriel and Balanbale districts, 30 kilometers from each side. It is located on the Southwest of Balanbale and Northwest of Guriel and is officially under Guriel district. Diri Hassan is in a large pastoral land, and its geographical scope includes seven smaller areas: Kaare, Surdhabad, RuunKale, Laanijabo, Laamo idiris, Shire xalane and Nor diriye. Approximately 450 households are living in these villages, and who have no access to primary health services. Lack of access to health services increases health risks to mothers, children, and the elderly and other health-vulnerable people. The construction of this health post will provide access to basic healthcare services to Diri Hassan communities, and onwards health referrals to bigger health institutions.
The state government is leading the implementation of this project, and which is aligned with the national and state stabilization and development plans. The Ministry of Health of Galmudug has provided assurance on covering running costs and salaries for essential staff. The district commissioner and the district health officer endorsed the construction of the community health post in Diriye Hassan village to improve access to health services.
Construction of the Diri Hassan health post can be done through the matching grant activity under Daryeel project, which supplements the funds raised by the community at a set ratio. As the health post will benefit all those residing in Diri Hassan, which requires collaboration across different groups and sub-clans across the district, the matching grant ratio will be 1 to 2. The Community contribution expected is $10,000 with the project matching $20,000. Hence the total cost of the Diri Hassan health post is $30,000.
The health post was identified as a priority project through inclusive Community Based Planning (CBP) conducted in Guriel in January 2022. This process was government-led, and community-owned bringing together representatives from different socioeconomic groups in the community to jointly assess their location including mapping resources, understanding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to the community, and to identify priorities of the community.
